HUAWEI Mate Series Development History Guide

On August 29, 2023, without holding a formal launch event, Huawei suddenly listed the Huawei Mate 60 Pro on its official website and made it available for purchase both online and offline, leaving many people puzzled.

Battery and Charging: The Mate 60 comes with a built-in 4750mAh battery and supports a maximum of 66W super-fast wired charging (11V/6A), compatible with 10V/4A, 10V/2.25A, 4.5V/5A, and 5V/4.5A super-fast charging, as well as 9V/2A fast charging. It also supports 50W Huawei Super Wireless Charging and wireless reverse charging. The Mate 60 Pro, Mate 60 Pro+, and Mate 60 RS Porsche Design all feature a 5000mAh battery and support a maximum of 88W super-fast wired charging (20V/4.4A), compatible with 11V/6A, 10V/4A, 10V/2.25A, 4.5V/5A, and 5V/4.5A super-fast charging, along with 9V/2A fast charging. They also support 50W Huawei Super Wireless Charging and 20W wireless reverse charging.

System Configuration: The entire Mate 60 series is powered by the 5nm process Kirin 9000s chip, with an 8MB system cache. In terms of CPU, it employs a 1+3+4 architecture, with the large core clocked at 2.62GHz and support for 12 hyperthreads, enhancing multitasking capabilities. For GPU, it features a proprietary Maleoon 910 GPU. The NPU adopts the Da Vinci architecture 2.0 NPU, and the ISP uses Kirin ISP 6.0, supporting four-channel processing. The processor delivers robust performance with a power consumption of approximately 13W, while in standby mode with the screen off, it consumes only 0.2W. This allows it to effortlessly handle both light and heavy usage scenarios.

On September 6, 2022, the HUAWEI Mate 50 was officially unveiled.

Battery and Charging: The HUAWEI Mate 50 and Mate 50E feature an internal battery capacity of 4460mAh, while the Mate 50 Pro and Mate 50 RS Porsche Design have a larger 4700mAh battery. They all support rapid charging with a maximum of 66W (11V/6A), compatible with 10V/4A, 10V/2.25A, 4.5V/5A, and 5V/4.5A super-fast charging, as well as 9V/2A fast charging. Additionally, they offer up to 55W wireless super-fast charging and support 10W wireless reverse charging.

System Configuration: All models in the HUAWEI Mate 50 series feature a 6.7-inch OLED screen with a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz, providing an excellent visual experience. In terms of processors, the HUAWEI Mate 50E is powered by the Snapdragon 778G 4G processor, meeting everyday usage needs. On the other hand, the HUAWEI Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 RS Porsche Design are equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 4G processor, delivering a good balance of energy efficiency and performance. It’s important to note that the HUAWEI Mate 50 series does not support 5G connectivity, as they lack 5G modems.

Huawei held a global online launch event on October 22, 2020, to introduce the HUAWEI Mate 40 Series smartphones.

Battery and Charging: The charging and battery performance of the HUAWEI Mate 40 Series varied among the models. The Mate 40E features a 4200mAh battery with support for 40W wired fast charging, lacking wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. On the other hand, the rest of the Mate 40 Series is equipped with a 4400mAh battery and offers more powerful 66W (11V6A) super-fast wired charging, along with 50W wireless fast charging and reverse wireless charging.

System Configuration: Except for the Huawei Mate 40E Series, the entire HUAWEI Mate 40 Series is powered by the industry’s first 5nm Kirin 9000 Series chip, delivering exceptional performance and high-speed 5G connectivity. It runs the latest EMUI 11 operating system, enhancing smart interactions and enabling seamless smart connectivity in various scenarios. The Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro come in three glass material color options: Mystic Silver, Glaze White, and Black. Additionally, there are two vegan leather versions available in Yellow and Green. The Mate 40 Pro+ and Mate 40 RS Porsche Design offer Ceramic Black and Ceramic White color choices. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Series initially consists of four models with two different screen sizes: the base Mate 40 with a 6.5-inch display and the Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+, and Mate 40 RS Porsche Design with a 6.76-inch screen. All models feature a 90Hz refresh rate and 1080P+ resolution screens. The Mate 40 has a 68° curved dual-curve display, while the other models feature an 88° curved dual-curve waterfall display.

On September 19, 2019, Huawei unveiled the HUAWEI Mate 30 series of smartphones in Munich, Germany. The Mate 30 series received a significant update to HarmonyOS 3.0.0.300 (SP2C00E300R5P8), with enhancements to the versatile card features and intelligent multi-window functionality, along with a fresh Pure Mode upgrade.

Battery and Charging: These devices are equipped with a 4200mAh battery and support 40W super-fast charging at 10V4A and 27W wireless fast charging.

System Configuration: The Huawei Mate 30 series is powered by two processors, the Kirin 990 4G and the Kirin 990 5G. The Kirin 990 5G was the first processor in the market to integrate a 5G modem, featuring the Balong 5000 baseband. It supports both NSA and SA networking modes, dual SIM dual standby, and allows 5G connectivity in either SIM card slot, permitting simultaneous use of 5G and 4G cards. It also supports connectivity across eight different 5G frequency bands.

Huawei unveiled its Mate 20 Series on October 16, 2018, in London, UK. The Mate 20 5G marked Huawei’s foray into 5G technology, achieved through the use of an external 5G modem for communication.

Battery and Charging: Taking the Huawei Mate 20 Pro as an example, it comes equipped with 40W SuperCharge and 15W wireless fast charging capabilities, ensuring the 4200mAh battery stays powered up. In just 30 minutes, it can reach a 70% charge. Additionally, it boasts 15W wireless fast charging.

System Configuration: The HUAWEI Mate 20 features a 6.53-inch LCD waterdrop screen design and runs on the EMUI 9.0 smart operating system, customized based on Android 9.0. It is powered by the world’s first 7nm process AI chip, the Kirin 980. This chip significantly increases transistor density by 55% compared to the Kirin 970. It also marks the first commercial use of the Cortex-A76 architecture and the first commercial use of the Mali-G76 GPU in the industry. Compared to its predecessor, it offers a 46% performance boost and a 178% improvement in energy efficiency.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro features a 6.39-inch OLED screen with a 2K resolution and adopts a notch design. While the standard version lacks an under-display fingerprint sensor, the UD (Under Display) version incorporates 3D structured light facial recognition and under-display fingerprint recognition. Both versions house a 4200mAh battery. The Huawei Mate 20 X boasts a massive 7.2-inch screen with an OLED waterdrop design and a high-capacity 5000mAh battery.

The HUAWEI Mate 10 series was unveiled by Huawei on October 16, 2017, in Munich, Germany.

Battery and Charging: The Mate 10 series features USB-C connectivity and Huawei’s SuperCharge fast-charging technology, supporting 4.5V/5A low-voltage 22.5W fast charging. It comes with a built-in 4000mAh high-capacity battery.

System Configuration: The Mate 10 is powered by the Kirin 970 octa-core processor, utilizing a four-core A73 and four-core A53 architecture. It boasts a Mali-G72 GPU codenamed Heimdallr, after the Norse god of light. The Huawei Mate 10 series incorporates a four-curved glass body design and offers a 5.9-inch 2K-level 16:9 display, while the Huawei Mate 10 Pro features a 6-inch 18:9 OLED full-view screen with a resolution of 2160*1080. On the back, it houses a Leica dual-camera setup and dual-color temperature flash, with the laser focus module integrated into the center stripe design.

The HUAWEI Mate 9, officially introduced by Huawei in November 2016 in Munich, Germany, is a notable smartphone.

Battery and Charging: The Mate 9 series features a built-in 4000mAh non-removable battery, equipped with a USB-C interface and Huawei’s SuperCharge fast-charging technology, supporting 4.5V/5A low-voltage 22.5W fast charging.

System Configuration: The Mate 9 is powered by the Hisilicon Kirin 960 octa-core processor, utilizing a 4A73+4A53 architecture with a clock speed of 2.4GHz. It incorporates the latest UFS 2.1 memory technology, delivering storage speeds 100% faster than the previous generation Kirin 950. The device runs on the EMUI 5.0 operating system based on Android 7. Its rear camera setup consists of a Leica dual-lens system with a 12-megapixel color sensor and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor. HUAWEI Mate 8 Series The HUAWEI Mate 8 was unveiled by Huawei on November 26, 2015, at the Shanghai Expo Center.

Battery and Charging: It features a non-removable 4000mAh battery with Micro-USB interface and support for 9V2A fast charging.

System Configuration: The HUAWEI Mate 8 is powered by the Kirin 950 octa-core processor, utilizing a 2.3GHz (big four cores) + 1.8GHz (small four cores) + micro-intelligent core I5 architecture. It runs on the EMUI 4.0 operating system based on Android 6, boasting an aerospace-grade aluminum alloy body with a 1.7mm visual borderless design. It comes with a Micro USB interface and has dimensions of 157.1mm in length, 80.6mm in width, 7.9mm in thickness, and weighs 185 grams.

The HUAWEI Mate 7 is a smartphone released by Huawei at the Berlin International Consumer Electronics Show in September 2014.
